I am doing a project on the most effective method of learning new words in a foreign language for Zetland teenagers. I have found a pie chart with the results of a survey. I am going to comment on the data and give my opinion on the subject of the project.

Looking at the pie chart, I can identify a few main facts. The majority of the respondents choose the option “Make paper cards with words” (48%) answering the survey question “What is the most effective method of learning new words in a foreign language?”. It is also clearly seen that the responses “Use a mobile app” and “Learn lists of words by heart” constitute 20% and 5% of the total respectively.

According to the data, the figure for the option “Make sentences with new words “ (18%) is twice higher than that for “Use mnemonic techniques” (9%). This is unsurprising as using new words in a context provides better comprehension of the meaning and long-term memorisation, whereas mnemonic techniques are helpful for low level students only.

It is worth mentioning that one of the problems that can arise with learning a foreign language is lack of speaking practice which is crucial for learner’s fluency. The solution is to communicate with native speakers via special online platforms or social media.

To conclude, I firmly believe that learning a foreign language is of great importance as it improves one’s career opportunities and also broadens our horizon.

I am doing a project on why Zetlanders rarely buy Christmas presents online. I have found a table with the results of a relevant survey. I am going to comment on these data and give my opinion on the subject of the project.
According to the data in the table, 52% of the respondents, answering the survey question “Why do you rarely buy Christmas presents online?”, choose the option “Difficult to find a high-quality present”. Another 13% opt for the response “Choosing takes too much time”. It is also clearly seen that the option “Late delivery” (11%) is ranked fourth.
It is worth mentioning that such reason for RARELY buying Christmas presents online as the fact that the photo may be deceptive (18%) is more common than the fact that no gift packaging is provided (6%). This is natural as photos can be misleading in terms of the size of a gift or the material it is made of, and it is impossible to fix these if they are not exactly what one expected. A gift packaging, however, can be bought additionally.
Unfortunately, some problems can arise with buying presents online. One of them is late delivery, which can be frustrating and can ruin the whole celebration. An obvious solution is to buy gifts in advance. This can have an additional bonus: one will have time to order another gift if something goes wrong.
To conclude, I think it is not advisable to buy presents online because it is impractical. One can get a damaged or wrong item due to the impossibility to physically examine the purchase.

Looking more closely at the table, I can note that the figure for “The photo may be deceptive” is three times higher than that for “No gift packaging”, at 18% and 6% respectively. This is not surprising because vendors can post misleading product photos to increase sales, while gifts can be easily wrapped by customers.
Unfortunately, when buying presents online one might be concerned about having a purchase delivered on time. The solution would be to carefully check delivery dates and to order a gift in advance.
In conclusion, I believe that it is advisable to buy presents online because online stores and e-commerce platforms offer a wide variety of goods to choose from. Furthermore, they usually provide a reliable shipping service and flexible exchange policy. (257 words)

Если можем объяснить сравнение логически, то есть два стула варианта:

1) Вязание популярнее футбола, и это неудивительно, ведь футбол гораздо опаснее вязания

2) Вязание популярнее футбола, и это удивительно, ведь футбол более захватывающий.

Если не можем объяснить логически, то стоит попробовать предположить, как устроена жизнь в Зетланде, опираясь на сравнение:

"Почему вы не ходите в театр?"

Показатель за "Слишком далеко от дома" выше чем за "Дорогие билеты". Можно предположить, что в Зетландии театров крайне мало и на дорогу до театра уходит слишком много времени. Кроме того, по всей видимости, в Зетландии высокие зарплаты и цена билета не является a deterrent для жителей.

Можно сделать и другой вывод:

"Почему вы не ездите на работу на велике?"

Нет велодорожек 52%
Не могу позволить себе купить велосипед 10%

I can suggest that the local authorities should build more cycle lanes to encourage people to cycle to work.// It can be inferred that local authorities do not invest money in developing infrastructure for cyclists. At the same time, I can assume that bicycles in Zetland are relatively cheap. (Вторая часть это уже вывод про страну, как в примере выше).

Какое предположение насчет Зетландии можно было бы сделать, если бы показатель "Не могу позволить себе купить велосипед" составлял, скажем, 45%?

The figure for “Cultural diversity “ is higher than that for “Sense of community”. It is unsurprising as when people from various backgrounds interact, they exchange knowledge and traditions which leads to new ideas and cultural innovations. This makes the country an interesting and vibrant place. At the same time, I can assume that in Zetland people are often busy and do not have time or energy to interact with those around them.

Недавно закончила курс подготовки экспертов от ФИПИ. Так вот, одному мальчику сняли баллы за то, что среди местных достопримечательностей он неверно назвал памятник «Медный всадник» - Copper Horseman, продемонстрировав знание слова «медь», но не зная о том, что в английском это The Bronze Horseman.

Убедимся, что знаем, как верно называются некоторые достопримечательности двух столиц.
