Чтобы разобраться в нюансах употребления синонимов, надо поработать с несколькими словарями и привлечь другие источники, изучить контексты употребления синонимов. Отвечу кратко. Некоторая стилистическая разница между интересующими нас синонимами проблемы не представляет, т.к. ни один из этих глаголов не маркируется в словарях как spoken, colloquial, informal. Они все более или менее нейтральны, с некоторыми колебаниями в ту или иную сторону.
Я не рекомендую select, потому что считаю, что респонденты в ходе соцопроса вряд ли выбирают ответ из предложенных “by making careful decisions”, это требует времени и дополнительной информации, а в условиях соцопроса на это обычно нет времени – см. Кембриджский словарь.
Я не рекомендую single out – см. collinsdictionary.com: If you single someone out from a group, you choose them and give them special attention or treatment. – этого тоже нет в соцопросе. Мы также обсуждали на форуме vote в нашем контексте – не подходит семантически.
Т.о., рекомендую choose & opt for. В заключение все-таки позволю себе заметить, что в цели ПК изучение английского языка не входит.

I am currently working on a project on the most important reasons for doing sports
among teenagers in Zetland and I have found a table with the results of the opinion polls. I am going to analyse them and give my opinion on the
importance of sports in our lives.
Looking at the table, I can identify some facts. Answering the question “Why
is sport important to you?”, 33% of the respondents choose “it teaches teamwork
and problem-solving skills”, 11 % select “it encourages a social life” and the lowest
proportion of those surveyed opt for “it boosts self-esteem” (9 %).
The results of the opinion polls invite comparison. The proportion of those who do sports to reduce stress is higher than that of those who are into sports because they need to control weight, at 29% and 18% respectively, which is not surprising because modern life is really stressful and stress is known to cause stress-related illnesses. At the same time, doing a sport is not always helpful in losing weight as after a workout a person often feels hungry which often results in overeating.
However, there are some problems one can face while doing a sport. One of them
is that people can get injured. A solution is to do a sport under a proper supervision,
use only high-quality equipment and take all precautions.
In conclusion, I believe that sport plays a great role in our lives because it helps
us to stay healthy. In addition, if people did not do any sports, their lives would be
more boring.

do you refuse to take a gap year” are “financial concerns” (30%) and "fear of falling behind" (27%). IN CONTRAST, the least commonly cited response is “desire to start my career” (4%). NOTABLY, the options “pressure to follow a traditional path” and “uncertainty about what to do” make up 22% and 17% of the total respectively.
According to the data, the proportion of those who refuse to take a year out due to financial concerns is higher than that of those who do so because they are uncertain about what to do, which is not surprising because of the ongoing global financial crisis. At the same time, it is quite easy to do some research and find out what gap year options are available today.
However, there are some problems which can arise with returning to studies after a gao year. One of them
is that students often fall behind because they forget what they have learnt at school. A solution is for parents to encourage young people to do some studying during their gap year.

Самое важное:
1) введение.
2) 2-3 факта. Удобно сгруппировать все данные в три группы, например, так:

According to the data, the proportion of those who do not go to the theatre due to financial concerns is higher than that of those who are not keen on theatre going because they have other interests. It can be assumed that in order to attract more visitors theatres should consider offering discounts. Not only will it make theatre going more affordable to those who are on tight budget, but it could also make those who have other interests reconsider their attitude to theatre.
However, there are some problems which can arise while choosing a play to watch. One of them
is that there are often so many performances on that it is hard to choose the best one. A solution is to read reviews online or ask one’s friends to recommend a play to watch.

Перевод:

Новая ошибка этого года в средствах логической связи, неожиданно получившая
широкое распространение, – это неуместное использование слова overall: Overall, as can

a fast result. Использование этого слова возможно при определенном обобщении, общем
описании ситуации, но является ошибкой, когда приводится один конкретный факт.
Перевод:

Стали чаще встречаться работы, в которых некоторые слова взяты в скобки, но
не зачеркнуты. При исправлениях следует зачеркивать ненужные слова, даже если они
берутся в скобки, иначе нарушается смысл текста и его связность, поскольку скобки – это
пунктуационный знак, имеющий свои функции.
