๐Ÿง The Human Brain Anatomy | Wednesday

The human brain is the central control system of the body. Every movement, thought, memory, and automatic life sustaining process depends on it. Although it weighs only about 1.3 to 1.4 kilograms in an adult, it consumes a significant portion of the bodyโ€™s oxygen and energy supply.
The brain is made up of billions of specialized nerve cells called neurons. These cells communicate through electrical impulses and chemical signals, allowing different parts of the body to function in coordination. The brain is protected by the skull, three protective layers called the meninges, and cerebrospinal fluid, which cushions it from impact. Despite this protection, the brain remains highly vulnerable to injury and lack of oxygen

The brain is divided into three major parts. The cerebrum is the largest portion and is responsible for higher functions such as thinking, reasoning, memory, speech, voluntary movement, and interpretation of sensory information. It allows us to process what we see, hear, feel, and understand. The cerebellum, located at the back of the brain, controls balance, posture, and coordination. It ensures that movements are controlled and precise rather than unsteady. The brainstem connects the brain to the spinal cord and regulates essential life functions including breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, swallowing, and consciousness. Damage to the brainstem can disrupt these vital processes.
The brain depends continuously on oxygen and glucose delivered through the bloodstream. If oxygen supply is interrupted, brain cells begin to suffer damage within minutes. This is why conditions such as choking, cardiac arrest, severe bleeding, or stroke become life threatening quickly. In many emergencies, first aid actions aim to maintain breathing and circulation in order to protect brain function.

Common conditions that affect the brain include stroke, traumatic brain injury, seizures, meningitis, and brain infections. Warning signs may include sudden weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, confusion, severe headache, loss of balance, unequal pupil size, or loss of consciousness. These symptoms require urgent medical attention.
Understanding the brain helps us recognize why rapid and correct emergency response matters. Many first aid principles are designed to preserve oxygen flow to the brain and prevent irreversible damage

February 12, 1809 | Abraham Lincoln, the Presidential Icon Is Born On This Day

Abraham Lincoln (the 16th president of the United States), hailed by many as the greatest President of the United States, was born in poverty on this day in a one-room rural cabin, the son of a farmer.

Abraham Lincoln was born into poverty in a one-room log cabin near Hodgenville, Kentucky. His father, Thomas, a poor pioneer, was a farmer and carpenter, and his mother, Nancy, was a seamstress.

Lincoln spent much of his youth working as a farmhand, but later became a merchant, a postmaster, a county surveyor and a lawyer, although he had no formal qualifications for any of these posts. He was largely self-educated and his total schooling, given to him by travelling teachers, is estimated to total only around one year.
