Friday UN SDG Spotlight | SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 7 focuses on access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all people. It recognizes energy as a foundation for health, education, safety, and economic activity.
The goal addresses two main issues.
First, millions of people still live without electricity or depend on unsafe and polluting fuels for cooking and heating.
Second, global energy systems still rely heavily on fossil fuels, which increase pollution and climate risk.
SDG 7 promotes the expansion of renewable energy such as solar, wind, and hydro. It also supports better energy efficiency so homes, schools, hospitals, and industries use less energy while meeting daily needs.
The target year for achieving SDG 7 is 2030. Progress depends on investment, policy support, technology access, and community level action, especially in low income regions.
