Mercedes ELV issues on W204, W207 and W212 can leave you stuck. Locked steering, a locked wheel, no start.
The EIS and ELV work together as one security handshake. When the ELV processor locks up or the module loses communication, the car reads it as a threat and refuses to start.
This is detailed electronics work, not a driveway guess. We read the security data from your EIS and key, then place a coded emulator that reports the right status back to the car. Done on the bench, in our electronic laboratory in West Palm Beach.

Mercedes front SAM (W204 / W212 / W207): the car starts again, but the coding is where the real work starts.
A used module with the same part number can wake the car up. Then the faults begin. The front SAM holds the car's identity and coding, and a donor still carries the data of the car it came from.
Making it work means transferring the full data set, coding and configuration, not just VIN and mileage. There is more than one processor inside. Each one holds part of the picture.
Water and corrosion are the top reason these die. And when the SAM is dead, the car goes silent on OBD2. The work starts at the board level.

ECU Cloning Failed Somewhere Else? Here Is What to Do Next
ECU Cloning Failed Somewhere Else? Here Is What to Do Next You sent your ECU out for cloning. You waited. Then you got the call: "We couldn't do it." Maybe they said the module was bad. Maybe they gave no explanation at all. Now you are back to square one…
A 2019 Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 came into our West Palm Beach lab with the 9G-Tronic stuck in third gear and shifting all over the place. The speed sensor on the VGS-NAG3 conductor plate had sheared off completely. Replacing the plate on an FBS4 vehicle is not a swap. VIN binding, SCN calibration, and drive authorization all have to move over to the new unit or the car just sits there. We transferred the full data set and the car drove out clean through every range. The owner drove on it for weeks; caught early, this is an electronics case. Driven through, it becomes a full mechanical teardown.

He worked out the fault himself. Correctly.
His 2012 VW Passat lit up like a Christmas tree. Data dropping, cluster red, systems falling off one after another. He found the gateway module, bought a new one, installed it himself.
The car threw a component protection fault. Nothing changed.
We opened his old unit. Water. Corrosion. The module had drowned.
One question: have you checked the sunroof drains? His answer: right, I did take one off.
A tube worth almost nothing took out the most connected module in the car.
Being right about the diagnosis is not the same as being done.

Every module answered except the engine. That was the whole diagnosis.
A 2012 Genesis 4.6 parked, sat for lunch, and would not start after. Cranked fine. Never fired.
He worked it out himself, and worked it out right: when everything on the network responds except one module, that one module is the problem. His engine control module had gone silent. He pulled it, bought a replacement, sent us both. Told us his original was fine.
We do not take a customer's word for it. We test.
His replacement checked out clean. His original did not answer at all. We opened it and found the reason: a burned spot on the board, components cooked, scorch marks on the cover from the inside.
The board was burned. This ECM comes through our laboratory regularly. We restored his vehicle data and transferred it to the replacement he had already bought.

A customer brought in a Mercedes W204 Front SAM with intermittent communication loss and lighting dropouts. On the bench, we compared it to a reference unit. Visually? Screw for screw identical. Same board layout, same connector pattern. You would have called them a match without hesitation.
Then we checked the part numbers. They weren't the same. That should have been the answer right there, but the boards looked so alike it was worth verifying anyway.
Verification caught what a visual inspection missed. These units were not a real match, even though they appeared to be. One looked like it could clone onto the other. It couldn't.
This is the core lesson: the part number tells you what will work. A board that looks identical is not proof of compatibility. Visual inspection alone isn't enough.
We do not take compatibility on appearance. We verify before we speak.

Engine starts fine. Runs smooth while cold. A few minutes in, once everything warms up, it misfires. One cylinder takes the hit. Check Engine light comes on. Most shops go through the usual suspects: injectors, ignition coils, fuel pump, wiring. The code clears. The light goes out for a while. Then it comes back.
On some Mercedes four cylinder turbo engines, capacitors inside the engine control module start leaking over time. This happens inside the module itself, invisible to a standard scan tool. The leak corrodes the board traces. That is why the misfire shows up specifically once the engine and the module warm up together: the connection comes and goes as the board heats.
We open the module and look at what is happening inside, not just read the fault codes from outside. If the original unit is still communicating, we transfer the data, coding, and vehicle pairing to a tested working module. The car drives out the same day.

Locked PCM on a 2015+ Dodge, Jeep, or Ram and nobody wants to touch it. That is because removing the factory lock and preparing the module for tuning are not the same job, and mixing them up kills the module for good.
A rushed unlock gets the lock off. Then calibration starts and checksums fail, the module will not read, or the tuner gets a module that nobody can explain. The factory protection comes off one way. The tuning platform writes another way. When those steps are not aligned, the GPEC module does not come back.
We prepare the GPEC module fully in the lab. Remove the factory protection. Get it ready for your platform. Transfer data if the module still communicates. Handle VIN programming. No surprises in between.
If you are a tuner and calibration is your strength but module preparation is not, send us the locked PCM. We get it ready for your platform and you take it from there.

Turn signals and headlights dead, windows silent, dashboard dark. Everything failed at once on a 2004-2014 BMW or MINI. Almost always the FRM3 footwell module, but only if the battery was recently weak, jump started, or the terminal came off with ignition on.
That voltage event weeks ago probably looked minor. The module seemed fine afterward. Then one day it stopped taking commands. The data inside corrupted, not from a short, but from the drop itself. Now the module is physically intact but does not understand anything.
Before complete failure, symptoms go intermittent. Turn signals work, then do not. Lights flicker on their own. Windows respond halfway. This is not random. This is the data already degrading. Some owners get it checked at that stage and the symptoms back off temporarily. Then they return, worse than before, because the underlying issue was never resolved.
The fix is data restoration on the module itself, not a replacement unit. A used FRM3 is a different car with a different VIN. It needs matching data transfer to work on yours. And cloning the old data just carries the corruption forward, not the fix.
Donor compatibility matters. Two units that look identical can be different generations. Verification catches this before any transfer. We check by type and generation, complete the full process to final test, and do not stop at the first successful result.
We are an electronic laboratory, not a shop. We work 35+ makes, 200+ verified part numbers active. If the processor inside is physically destroyed, we tell you that immediately when we find it, not after you have paid.

The panel was already dead. You just finished it off from the outside.
It starts small. A nudge further toward cold. Then further. Then the van flips: cold for two days, hot for two days, no reason. Then it stays hot. Only hot. So you crank the knob harder, past the limit, and it spins free in your hand.
Here is what matters: something failed inside on its own. The resistor gave up. That is the standard failure on the 903 body climate control, 2003 through 2006. Not the compressor. Not a leak. The electronics in the box you have been fighting with. Almost every panel that reaches our bench arrives with both the original fault and six months of damage from arguing with it.
The part numbers do not help. There are four of them depending on the year, and forums are full of owners stating plainly they do not know which does what. Mercedes called it one thing, Freightliner another, Dodge a third. Same van. Same panel. Same resistor failure.
You take the panel out yourself, black box with buttons, and hold the whole problem in one hand. Then it comes to us. The resistor gets replaced, whatever else has accumulated in twenty years of Florida heat. Panel goes back in your dash. Climate works.
We do not send it back until it works on the bench. We are an electronic laboratory, not a shop. 35+ makes, 200+ verified part numbers since 1995.

Press the gas on a RAM ProMaster 3.6L and the engine climbs but the van doesn't follow. Sluggish, uncertain, especially under load or towing. It's not broken. It's calibrated for an entire product line, not what this engine can actually do.
