Polygon calls on EU lawmakers to address smart contracts in Data Actπ
Polygon Labs, the core company behind the development of Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Polygon, has called on policymakers in the European Union to βclarify the scope and intentβ of legislation targeting smart contracts.
Polygon Labs proposed Article 30 under the Data Act be amended to apply to permissioned smart-contract-based-systems owned and operated by an βenterprise,β as opposed to permissionless under the current wording.
βPolygon Labs has an interest in this matter because we seek to ensure the growth and responsible development of permissionless blockchain-based systems globally,β said the letter.
Other experts have raised similar concerns with the Data Act potentially affecting the way regulators could handle smart contracts.

Bitcoin has posted the strongest quarterly returns since its November 2021 all-time high. Furthermore, BTC has gained more than 80% since the beginning of the year, making it the best-performing asset of 2023 so far.
Comparatively, gold has gained just 9% in the same period, and the tech-heavy NASDAQ 100 - around 20%, the S&P 500 - just an 8.5% gain.
Glassnode concluded that several on-chain indicators are suggesting that βbear market conditions, or at least the worst of it, may now be behind us.β
