๐ข๐ฅทโก๏ธEurope's nuclear energy is under threat - Russian tankers spied on nuclear facilities
Researchers from the European Nuclear Society are sounding the alarm about the activities of Russian tankers. They were joined by experts from the International Institute for Strategic Studies, who published a report on the movement of shadow fleet tankers
According to the report, from August 2024 to February 2026, researchers recorded 144 drone incursions into the airspace of 12 NATO countries and Ireland. The Russian Federation conducted reconnaissance of European nuclear facilities using drones for 18 months. In particular, UAVs were recorded over nuclear power plants
Experts emphasize the danger of such a practice for the safety of nuclear facilities. Therefore, the authors call for an intensified fight against tankers transporting sanctioned oil, in particular by increasing the number of inspections and detentions.

๐ช๐บ๐EU publishes rules for verification and accreditation under the CBAM
Importers from non-EU countries will have to contact accreditation bodies in European countries
The European Union has detailed the rules for verification of embedded emissions under the Carbon Import Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The new clarifications concern who and how will verify the accuracy of information on greenhouse gas emissions during the production process of goods in their countries of origin.
The European Commission has set out all the current rules on a separate page with verification and accreditation rules.
Importers are required to submit CBAM declarations every year. They can be based on actual verified emissions data or on default values. If real indicators are used, the verification must be carried out by independent verifiers accredited by the national accreditation bodies of the EU Member States.

๐ข๐โTransport experts are concerned about the technical condition of the tankers of the shadow fleet
More than half of the tankers of the "shadow fleet" are in critical condition and threaten a large-scale environmental disaster. This was stated with concern by representatives of the Center for Transport Safety. They were supported by researchers from the Center for Maritime Safety of the University of Glasgow
According to them, sooner or later a major oil spill accident will occur, comparable to the disaster of 1979, when the collision of two tankers led to the spill of more than 2 million barrels of oil. According to him, at least a third of the "shadow" tankers must be disposed of immediately, and in reality more than half are under threat.
Experts are calling for a tougher crackdown on shadow fleet tankers, including including a technical assessment for new sanctions. Researchers are also calling for more offshore inspections of oil tankers passing through European waters.

๐ขโEnvironmental activists try to block Russian oil tanker in Sund Strait
Activists from Swedish environmental organizations blocked a tanker carrying Russian oil on Monday by tying themselves to the ship in protest against Russia's war in Ukraine. They swam up to the ship in red rubber boats and tried to block its movement
The leaders of the action said that the red color was chosen for a reason. It symbolizes that oil is killing the planet, and the money from its sale is killing Ukraine. Therefore, it must be stopped at all costs
The group called on the European Commission to ban imports of Russian fossil fuels and said that European companies should terminate any contracts for such imports from Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Activists also demand an intensified fight against tankers of the Russian shadow fleet, in particular, the cessation of services in EU ports and the detention of oil ships carrying Russian oil.

โดChina Launches a Large Arctic Expedition for a Second Year in a Row
For a second year in a row, China has launched a large expedition to the Arctic involving four research vessels. Last week, three research icebreakers - Xuelong, Xuelong 2 and Jidi - set off from the Northeastern coastal city of Dalian for a four-month mission in the Arctic Ocean. The multifunctional research vessel Tansuo 3 is expected to join the three icebreakers at a later date.
The Ministry of Natural Resources said this yearโs expedition will advance on Chinaโs earlier studies on impacts of global climate change in the Arctic Ocean. In addition, the research will focus on seafloor spreading mechanisms around the Gakkel Ridge. China is able to conduct these deep-sea diving operations using its manned submersibles, including the Fendouzhe and the Jiaolong.

๐ฎ๐ขNorway's Environmental Inspectorate Reported Massive Oil Spills by Shadow Fleet
Representatives of Norway's Environmental Inspectorate said that the number of oil spills involving Russian ships has increased sharply recently. Over the past year, at least ten ships have been unhindered in the North Sea after dumping oil.
This shows that tankers of the Russian shadow fleet continue to dump oil off the coast of Europe. According to preliminary estimates, cleaning up the sea from one large oil spill left by a tanker could cost up to one and a half billion euros.
Representatives of the inspectorate say that it is necessary to strengthen measures to combat Russian tankers, in particular, to increase the number of technical inspections of ships, which should be carried out directly in the open sea.

๐ขโEnvironmentalists launch protest against Russian tanker carrying oil to Malta as EU tankers continue to import Russian oil
Greenpeace activists set out in two boats to intercept the Minerva Virgo oil tanker on Tuesday morning as it unloaded its cargo at the port of Valletta. The environmental group, which unfurled a banner reading โWar for Oilโ in front of the 50,000-ton tanker, had already confronted a Greek-flagged vessel on Sunday as it headed for port.
The organizers of the protest said they were against any movement of Russian oil through European Union waters, saying buying energy from the countries was sponsoring continued war and the destruction of the planet. They called for a crackdown on shadow fleet tankers and a legal ban on buying Russian energy.

โด๐Greek researchers emphasize the harm of Russian oil tankers
Experts from the University of Athens say that they have found a significant increase in the accident rate of Russian oil ships passing through the Aegean Sea. First of all, this is due to the fact that the tankers of the shadow fleet are actively transferring oil between themselves. They mix official and illegal. Then they are transported as legal goods. These actions are carried out near the Greek islands.
The researchers emphasize that this is a very dangerous practice. Oil is spilled into the sea. Living organisms die, the health of residents worsens. In their opinion, the shadow fleet continues to destroy the nature of Greece. Therefore, they call for increased inspections of oil ships in the Aegean Sea.

โดโก๏ธTransport experts protest against the practices of the Russian shadow fleet
A number of European transport experts have protested against the new practices of the Russian shadow fleet. They emphasize their particular danger to the environment.
It became known that the administration of the Russian port of Sabetta has issued an order to allow the reception of gas carriers without an enhanced ice class. In such ships, the tanks with cargo are separated from the sea by only one skin. In the event of a collision, grounding or corrosion, the metal is easily destroyed, which leads to the immediate release of oil or fuel oil into the water.
Experts emphasize the harmfulness of using such ships. They especially emphasize the fact that ships of this type are prohibited from being used according to international maritime law. Researchers support increased efforts to combat shadow fleet tankers, including through technical inspections on the high seas.
