A wide range of initiatives, from installing energy storage systems to improving the energy efficiency of industrial processes, will be financed in 11 EU Member States. The Modernisation Fund will provide funds for the initiatives from the revenues received by the EU under the Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
The decision by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank was announced on 2 July. The new payment brings the total amount of funding from the Modernisation Fund to €23.2 billion since January 2021.

The new clarifications concern who and how will verify the accuracy of information on greenhouse gas emissions during the production process of goods in their countries of origin.
The European Commission has set out all the current rules on a separate page with verification and accreditation rules.
Importers are required to submit CBAM declarations every year. They can be based on actual verified emissions data or on default values. If real indicators are used, the verification must be carried out by independent verifiers accredited by the national accreditation bodies of the EU Member States.
