The latest global technical novelty is AR glasses.

Amazon is confident that their use will reduce the overall order processing time by 30%. According to the developers, the smart glasses will project navigation and order data directly in front of the driver or warehouse employee's eyes. To "flip through" tasks, all you need is your voice - the augmented reality system will provide the optimal route to the shelf and the inventory level, as well as scan barcodes. This way, you can free your hands from smartphones and paper documents, and at the same time optimize your time and expenses.

However, experts are skeptical about this idea, as it is an expensive endeavor, and there are many challenges associated with its widespread implementation..

In particular, it requires the development of a lightweight and durable battery that can withstand an 8-hour shift, the collection of detailed navigation data for each route, and most importantly, it remains to be seen how comfortable it will be.

How to implement artificial intelligence without losing money.

In just 5% of cases, the implementation of artificial intelligence helped companies increase their profits, according to a recent study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 95% of cases, the use of AI tools did not lead to tangible financial results for businesses, despite the investment in integration.

According to the authors of the MIT study, the greatest effect of AI is achieved by digitalizing internal processes. As for companies that did not achieve results from the implementation of AI tools, they were more likely to refuse to fine-tune them, preferring to invest in sales and marketing.

Amazon fined $2.5 billion for imposing a paid subscription.

It turned out that the platform fraudulently connected users to a paid subscription to Prime and deliberately complicated the procedure for canceling it.

Therefore, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined Amazon a record $2.5 billion for deceiving consumers by imposing on them a paid subscription service Prime.

Of these, $1.5 billion will be reimbursed to 35 million customers affected by the platform's "fraudulent practices", and the remaining $1 billion will go to the federal budget as a fine.

OpenAI has launched purchases in ChatGPT.

It is still in test mode and only for users in the US. Products from the Etsy marketplace are available for purchase.

The entire process, from selection to payment, takes place directly in the chat. There is no need to visit the store's website. The feature is based on the open-source Agentic Commerce Protocol, developed in collaboration with Stripe

At the announcement, Etsy's shares rose by 13%, and Shopify's rose by 5% (it will be the next to be connected).

So far, you can only order one product, but they promise to add a shopping cart. OpenAI takes a commission from sellers, but assures that it will not affect the price for buyers.

A scandal is brewing in France over the Chinese online retailer Shein, according to The Guardian.

After a series of temporary pop-up stores in Dijon, Toulouse, and Marseille, the company announced that it intends to open permanent stores in the country, including at Galeries Lafayette and BHV, which are owned by the Société des Grands Magasins holding company.

These plans have sparked a backlash in the fashion industry. Galeries Lafayette has stated that its collaboration with Shein violates the terms of its franchise agreement and undermines the reputation of the department store. The president of the Federation of French prêt-à-porter called the Chinese retailer a “threat to the national fashion industry.”

The media highlighted that Shein’s business model is in direct conflict with French principles of quality, sustainability, and moderate consumption, and also recalled the company’s numerous accusations of labor exploitation and environmental violations due to its massive production volumes.

Amazon closes cashier-less stores in the UK.

A major end to the "smart" store experiment.

Amazon announced the closure of its cashier-less stores in the UK—the very ones where artificial intelligence allegedly controlled everything.

But it turned out that "AI" was only on the sign. The actual calculations were carried out by remote employees from India, who monitored customers via cameras and manually recorded who took what.

When this became known, customer traffic plummeted. Now Amazon is shutting down the project—and with it the myth of fully autonomous stores.

Some experts are sure that marketplaces will fade away.

However, Amazon continues to grow rapidly in the United States. There are three large marketplaces in China, which are also doing well, despite the fact that the market there was formed earlier than in Russia. Another thing is that a new segment is emerging within marketplaces — this is the D2C, Direct to Consumer model.

In America, many brands have already started working on this principle, that is, interacting directly with users and managing their loyalty.
Do you agree?
