Although the Sun is not the brightest or largest star, the distance between it and our planet is so small that sunlight literally floods the Earth, making all other weak light invisible.

The Solar Orbiter spacecraft took the most detailed photo of the Sun

Solar Orbiter was launched into space on February 10, 2020. Its main scientific program will last until December 2026, but scientists hope to continue research until 2030. 

A total of 22 revolutions around the Sun, and four of them the spacecraft has already done. During its journey Solar Orbiter has made two gravitational maneuvers at Venus and one at Earth to narrow its orbit and head for the innermost regions of the solar system.

On March 7, 2022, shortly before it passed its fourth perihelion, the spacecraft was 75 million kilometers from the photosphere of the Sun. From there, it took a picture of the entire disk of our star with the highest resolution - 83 million pixels.
