Junta Uses Nearly 2 Million Gallons of Aviation Fuel in 3 Months for Single Transport Aircraft Fleet

Although they are transport aircraft, the junta also uses them to drop 300-lb and 500-lb bombs as well as for training purposes. The junta operates Y-8, Y-12, ATR-42, ATR-72, and Fokker-70 aircraft for transport and bombing missions, while Beechcraft 1900, Grob G-120, and Let L-410 are used for training. All of these aircraft use aviation fuel known as Jet A-1.

Among the aircraft used for both transport and bombing, the Y-8 is the highest fuel consumer, requiring an average of 800 IG (Imperial Gallons) per hour. The Fokker-70 consumes 700 IG, while ATR 42/72 models use 220 IG, and the Y-12 consumes 190 IG per hour.

The Beechcraft 1900 and Let L-410, which can be used for both transport and training, consume 185 Imperial Gallons (IG) per hour, while the Grob G-120 consumes 90 IG per hour.

Now that we know the fuel consumption, let's calculate the cost.

Due to fuel consumption ranging from a minimum of 90 IG to a maximum of 800 IG per hour, the transport aircraft fleet incurs costs between 200 and 1,800 USD.

If we look at each aircraft type individually, the minimum hourly flight costs are approximately: $1,720 for the Y-8, $1,500 for the Fokker-70, $500 for ATRs, $410 for the Y-12, $397 for Beechcraft and L-410 models, and $194 for the G-120.

This amount costs, on average, tens of millions to hundreds of millions of kyats. This cost covers fuel alone and does not yet include the expenses for bombs, weaponry, or spare parts for aircraft maintenance.

According to the findings of the Blood Money Campaign (BMC), covering the three-month period from June 16 to September 16, 2025, a single transport aircraft group consumed over 1.8 million Imperial Gallons (1,814,955 IG) of aviation fuel. The total expenditure for this fuel amounted to more than 3.9 millions USD ($ 3,902,153.25).

Therefore, when we see an airstrike, we only see the bomber itself; however, behind the scenes, an entire system of transport aircraft, fuel supplies, and logistics is operating in coordination.

Where does all this blood money come from❓❓❓

Note: This calculation is based on the minimum average consumption of one of the three military aircraft groups—the transport aircraft group—used by the Myanmar military junta in its campaign of aerial terror, and is calculated using the pre–Middle East conflict aviation fuel price of $2.15 per imperial gallon (IG).
