Huge clean-up operation in Dubai as stormy weather eases

A major clean-up is under way across the UAE after two days of heavy rain caused flooding and travel disruption. Dubai deployed more than 300 pumps to drain flooded roads, with authorities later confirming main roads were cleared and public beaches, parks and markets reopened as conditions improved. Abu Dhabi Police also stepped up efforts to clear flooded roads.

The storms led to widespread flight cancellations and delays at Dubai and Sharjah airports, including the suspension of 13 Emirates flights. Passengers faced uncertainty as airlines adjusted schedules while heavy rain, thunder and lightning affected operations across the country.

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Khalifa Medical City has become the first hospital in the world to administer Itvisma, a new one-dose gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
