The diplomatic discord between Algeria and France deepened Sunday after Algiers banned French military planes from its airspace, its latest response to a row over visas and critical comments from President Emmanuel Macron.

France's jets regularly fly over the former French colony to reach the Sahel region of West Africa, where its soldiers are helping to battle jihadist insurgents as part of its Operation Barkhane.

A spokesperson for the French Armed Forces said Algeria had closed its airspace to two flights, but that it would have "no major consequences" for operations in the Sahel region.

At least five civilians died in a bombing outside a mosque in #Kabul, according to a Taliban spokesman. The attack seemed to target a funeral. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, but attacks by Islamic State have increased since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in August, raising the possibility of a wider conflict between the two extremist groups.
#Taiwan has reported a record number of incursions by Chinese warplanes into its air defence identification zone (ADIZ) for the second day in a row, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense said.

The self-governing island said a total of 39 Chinese military aircraft entered the ADIZ on Saturday, one more than the 38 planes it spotted on Friday.

The 38 and 39 planes respectively are the highest number of incursions Taiwan has reported in a day since it began publicly reporting such activities last year.
#Singapore’s parliament passed a sweeping and controversial law outlawing foreign interference in the city state’s affairs, that critics say could be used to silence dissenting voices. Under the legislation social-media firms can be required, among other things, to hand over users’ information and block content the government deems subversive.

Speaking to the China Times on Wednesday, Chiu said China was capable now, but would be completely prepared to launch an invasion in three years.
British officials travelled to #Afghanistan to hold talks with senior Taliban leaders, the first such open meeting since the West’s mass evacuations from the country in August.

Items on the agenda included alleviating the country’s humanitarian crisis and ensuring safe passage for those who want to flee.

Nonetheless, no Western country has yet recognised the Taliban as the legitimate rulers of Afghanistan.
