Developing: Since July 15, protesters have taken to the streets in more than a dozen cities in southwestern #Iran's Khuzestan province - including the capital of Ahwaz - to protest water shortages. The province is facing a severe drought, exacerbated by poor environmental planning, corruption, and poor water management. The oil-rich province is home not only to 80 percent of the country's oil but also to the ethnic Arab minority, which has faced severe discrimination and neglect over the decades.

⚡#India: At least five police officers and one civilian were killed and more than fifty people were wounded in clashes near the border between Assam and the Mizoram States, which have been in a long-standing territorial dispute.

The leaders of Assam and neighboring Mizoram, which have been wrangling about their border for decades, blamed each other for the deadly violence.

Since last month, tensions have been building between the two states when officials in Mizoram alleged that Assam police had taken over a border post. Monday’s clash took place near the town of Vairengte.

Mizoram was a part of Assam until 1972 when it was split up. It became a state in its own right in 1986.

Mizoram said the area claimed by Assam has been used by its people for more than 100 years, but the Assamese insist that a large chunk of land has been forcibly seized.

Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu goes on trial in the #Vatican on charges of inappropriately spending more than $400 million in Church money. He is the most senior cleric ever to be tried for financial crimes by the Vatican, a move that comes amid Pope Francis’s drive to reform the Holy See’s finances.

All civilian airports in and around #Iran’s capital Tehran will close during the inauguration of President-elect Ebrahim Raisi on August 5, Tasnim news agency reported.

The move is unprecedented for presidential inaugurations, although on a few occasions airports have been shut down during armed forces day.
