Scientists have developed a new "living plastic" that can biodegrade when needed, thanks to embedded bacterial spores. These spores stay dormant in the plastic until exposed to certain conditions, like an enzyme or being composted, which reactivates the bacteria. Once activated, the bacteria break down the plastic quickly, unlike regular plastics that take much longer to degrade. This innovation could help reduce plastic waste more effectively, but further research is needed to understand its full environmental impact and safety.
