1) VACUUM SEALED CONTAINERS
Contrary to popular belief, dogs cannot SMELL THROUGH things.
They can smell under things, around things and into things. They can even pick out a single smell hidden among thousands of others.
But airtight containers such as glass Mason jars create a vacuum when sealed. If no air can escape then nor can any odour. And there is nothing for the dog to detect.
Plastic containers are porous, which means that no matter how well they are sealed, odours will eventually secrete through tiny microscopic holes.
Non-porous materials such as metal and glass, when sealed air tight, won’t secrete.
However, unless the container has been sealed in almost laboratory conditions the dog is likely to detect any odour left on its surface from hands that may have come into contact with its contents.
2) DISTRACTING SMELLS
Another myth about sniffer dogs is that overwhelming odours – such as chilli powder and dried pepper – will repel the animal, mask other smells or perhaps temporarily disable it from sniffing any further.
But such a method would be counter productive for a very simple reason:-

Daar is verskeie metodes om jou aartappels vir maande en selfs jare te bewaar vir gebruik.
Die maklikste manier is om die aartappels, ONGEWAS, in papier sakke te stoor. Nie plasties nie. Dieselfde tipe sakkie waarin ons hulle koop.
Skerp lig is nadelig. So ook hitte.
Koel temperature van 10 tot 15 grade C is die beste temp. (Ons vleiskamer werk ideaal daarvoor en ons aartappels hou maande)
Lig sakkies van die grond af en moet nie direk op grond stoor nie.
Droging van aartappels is ook suksesvol.
Gaar aartappels wat fyngedruk is, werk die maklikste.
Bevriesing is ook ń metode om jou aartappel te bewaar.
Daar is verskeie metodes. Maak skyfie aartappels en blansjeer in olie tot tot die aartappels goed borrel. So 2 tot 3 minute. koel af, verpak en vries. Ontdooi dit by kamer temperatuur, druk dit droog en binne minute het jy heerlike aartappel skyfies.
Probeer meer vrieskas onafhanklik word en doen dit as laaste uitweg.
Die laaste metode is Canning. Doen dit vir 90 minute onder hoë druk, (104 kPa) en dit bly vir jare goed.
Aartappels bevat báie stysel. Dit moet baie goed afgespoel word in skoon water voordat jy dit bottel. Anders sit jy met ń wit, melkerige eindproduk.
Jy kan dit NIE in gewone stoompot doen nie. Alle groentes, vleis en vis het pH van bo 4.6 Die enigste manier om dit veilig te bottel is onder hoë druk met temperature wat 116 grade of meer bereik.
Pak aartappels rou in, bedek met kookwater waarin sout gevoeg is. Die korrekte oop spasie onder die bottel se rand is baie belangrik.

Bright light is harmful.
So is heat. Cool temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees C are the best temp. (Our meat room works perfectly for this and our potatoes last months)
Lift bags off the ground and do not store directly on the ground. Drying potatoes is also successful.
Mashed cooked potatoes work the easiest. Freezing is also a method to preserve your potato. There are several methods. Slice potatoes and blanch in oil until the potatoes bubble well. About 2 to 3 minutes. cool, package and freeze. Thaw it at room temperature, squeeze it dry and within minutes you have delicious potato chips . Become more freezer independent and do this as a last resort. The last method is Canning. I do it for 90 minutes under high pressure, (104 kPa) and it stays good for years. Potatoes contain a lot of starch. It should be rinsed very well in clean water before you bottle it. Otherwise you end up with a white, milky end product. You can NOT do this in regular steamer.
