“As far as I can see, SOUTH AFRICA IS ABOUT TO PASS A LAW THAT ALL CHILDREN GET VACCINATED presumably INCL COVID VACCINES - and parents who resist will face a 12 month jail term. A close reading of the BELA Bill makes clear that this amendment to the 'schools act' will be the way that the govt sneaks in the mandatory vaccinations that currently are not a legal requirement in South Africa; presumably this will include covid vaccines. (In fact, the MAIN intention is very likely to be covid vaccines since I have checked with other people who also do not recall point 4 below present in the pre-pandemic draft of BELA). This mandatory vaccination aim is not included in the summary stating the aims of the BELA bill, so it is easy to miss unless you read the whole bill carefully. Very clever.

Everyone is focussing on the Home Education issues in BELA which is easy for getting the majority on the side of the govt, while the vaccination requirement pops in through the back door without anyone being aware that they have an opportunity to comment on that.

And we wondered why the BELA Bill was so suddenly back on the table!

Here's the chain of it:
1) Schooling compulsory from age 4 - 16, with a 12 month jail sentence for parents who refuse without 'just cause' which is not defined and thus presumably at the DBE's discretion.

2) Home education and small schools at the same time lose the independence needed for any family to escape this.

3) To register for schools you have to provide a specified set of documents including immunisation documents.

4) An intergovernmental committee is actively and urgently to be created to investigate parents who refuse to provide any of the documents, Health dept is specified as one of the departments.

5) Parents who refuse to provide ALL docs can get jailed for 12 months.

Section 12 (2) of the Constitution states that everyone has the right to bodily and psychological integrity, which includes the right— (a) to make decisions concerning reproduction; (b) to security in and control over their body; and (c) not to be subjected to medical or scientific experiments without their informed consent.
