In New York, a man was detained who robbed and tortured to death an elderly man and his wife, then burned down their home.
The perpetrator asked the victims to open the door, claiming that his phone had supposedly run out of battery.
The incident occurred on September 8. The 42-year-old recidivist Jamell McGriff, who was on probation, was today charged with offenses related to the brutal execution of the married couple.
According to preliminary data, the perpetrator tied up 76-year-old Frank Alton and then inflicted several knife wounds on him. The 77-year-old wife of the deceased, Maureen, died from severe burns.
McGriff spent 16 years in prison for robbery. He is also listed in the sex offender registry and is suspected of other violations. Authorities are now establishing his involvement in another robbery and an attempt to commit a similar offense in July of this year.
