People cannot comprehend counterfactual pain

People are horrible at imagining counterfactuals — imagining what they’re missing out on in an alternate reality where they did something differently

99% cannot feel pain from their losses vs an alternate reality where they’d done something differently, i.e. what’s loosely refered to as “regret” in AI

i.e.

(A) counterfactual regret / absence of achievable gains / absence of gains versus what was an easy-achievable alternate reality = ~0% of people feel pain, VIRTUALLY NO ONE FEELS PAIN,

versus,

(A) punishment / losses in this reality = ~95% feel pain, EVERYONE FEELS PAIN

Examples:

+ Counterfactual pain — missing out on the 750x on $PNUT, that was announced here repeatedly. How many feel real pain from missing out on the $750k they’d have, had they put in $1k — NO ONE AT ALL, ZERO

+ Punishment pain / realized losses pain — how many would be mad over losing a $50 bill from your wallet — EVERYONE

But virtually no one seems to recognize this extreme distinction

Everyone likes to laugh about the 95% of sub-90 IQs who cannot grasp the “How would you feel if you did not have breakfast this morning?” question

Reality?

99% of EVERYONE has zero grasp on counterfactual pain either, answering similarly absurd nonsense to “but I did have breakfast this morning”, when asked about missing massive wins that were thrown in their face repeatedly

~Zero are able to comprehend even the most extreme counterfactual pain

If you don’t understand why this is incredible, you’re probably in the 99% who just doesn’t get it

(People can see someone else who has something they want and get jealous, but that’s something far more primitive)
