If you know anything about how modern AI is built, you know that indeed the general intelligence created by AI is anything but artificial:
(1) 99% not manually created — Aside from the sometimes terrible manual human overrides, essentially all of its general intelligence, it teaches itself, not coming from manually made human training data, rather just giving the AI some general rules and then it teaches itself. VAST majority of AI’s training is quickly becoming RL self-teaching, and that portion is only growing. Soon it will be ~100%. See the AlphaGo -> AlphaZero -> MuZero progression. Bitter lesson.
(2) 99% we have little control over what it learns — What it learns in its self-teaching turns out to be shockingly aligned with human intuition and behavior, vastly more than you’d ever realize. It is rediscovering something natural. Convergent evolution. Aliens on the opposite side of the universe would eventually invent something nearly identical in a shocking number of ways. Discovered, not invented.
