US hiring is showing signs of a recovery:
20% of small business owners said in July that they plan to hire over the next 3 months, the highest since October 2022.
By comparison, the average since the 1970s is just ~11%.
This also marks a +9 percentage point MoM increase, the largest monthly improvement in hiring intentions on record.
This even surpasses the sharp recovery seen following the 2020 pandemic drop.
Historically, this indicator has led nonfarm private payrolls by 3-6 months, as small firms account for ~46% of all US private sector employment.
If history holds, a stronger jobs report could be just months away.

Cracks in the US private credit industry are widening:
Loans marked as non-accrual across the 20 largest publicly traded business development companies (BDCs) rose +0.8 percentage points in Q2 2026, to a median 2.8% of cost, the highest since 2017.
BDCs are publicly traded firms that lend to small, mid-sized, and distressed US businesses, giving retail investors access to private credit markets.
This increase means a growing share of private-credit borrowers have either stopped making payments or are at risk of defaulting on their loans.
Furthermore, new funding commitments minus the value of investments repaid or sold across the 12 largest listed BDCs fell to -$2.5 billion in Q2 2025, the lowest in at least 2.5 years.
This marks the 3rd consecutive quarter of negative net funding.
Meanwhile, Fitch Ratings said last week that private credit defaults rose to an all-time high in July.
Stress in the $2 trillion private credit market is intensifying.

Scammers Are Targeting High-Value Shipments With Your Identity : Exclusive Report
According to sources familiar with operations inside UPS, FedEx and other shipping companies, a new and highly organized package theft scam appears to be targeting high-value shipments, particularly Apple iPhones, Apple Watches and other expensive electronics. The scam is reportedly happening at assigned UPS and FedEx drop-off and pickup locations.
Hereβs how the scam allegedly works:
Someone on the inside of a shipping company allegedly provides the scammers with the tracking number, name and address of the victim. The scammers are then able to track the shipment and determine when and where the package will be available for pickup.
In one reported incident, an employee at one of these locations wasn't satisfied with the identification and told the scammer that they wanted to see another form of identification.
The scammer reportedly left and returned less than 15 minutes later with a utility bill that appeared authentic and contained the victim's name and address.
Imagine being able to produce another piece of documentation using someone's personal information in less than 15 minutes.
According to the sources, this type of theft has been increasing throughout the five boroughs of New York City and appears to be extremely organized.
If the information about insiders providing tracking information and victims' personal details is accurate, this goes far beyond someone simply stealing a package. It could involve people with access to shipping information working with organized crews on the outside, who then use fraudulent identification and other documents to intercept high-value shipments.
The level of organization described by these sources raises serious questions about how these crews are obtaining victims' personal information, how they know exactly where the packages are going and how quickly they are able to produce seemingly legitimate identification and supporting documents .
