US hiring is showing signs of a recovery:
20% of small business owners said in July that they plan to hire over the next 3 months, the highest since October 2022.
By comparison, the average since the 1970s is just ~11%.
This also marks a +9 percentage point MoM increase, the largest monthly improvement in hiring intentions on record.
This even surpasses the sharp recovery seen following the 2020 pandemic drop.
Historically, this indicator has led nonfarm private payrolls by 3-6 months, as small firms account for ~46% of all US private sector employment.
If history holds, a stronger jobs report could be just months away.
