THE WORLD'S WATER IS BEING PRIVATIZED THROUGH TOKENIZATION.
Governments and institutions are exploring to convert water into a digital asset using tokenization.
Tokenization is a legal right to use a fixed amount of water represented by a token. The excess can be traded just like carbon credits and help to conserve water and track its usage.
This comes after water shortage has become a global concern for society, businesses and countries.
UN declared we are living in an era of "Global Water Bankruptcy". By 2030, demand for water could exceed available supply by 40%.
Water is also being used geopolitically.
India suspended its water-sharing treaty with Pakistan following conflict, while Iran attacked Gulf desalination plants leaving some villages without water access.
Governments are now tracking water more closely. The US is even using helicopters to map underground water.
Once it has information on availability, it can use tokenization to control distribution.
Goldman Sachs has written about this model, while Dubai's DMCC is already exploring a freshwater-backed digital token.
Currently water is traded at CME but it only tracks California prices with no physical delivery. Tokenization can be adopted globally with tracking real world usage.
The biggest challenge stopping this is monopoly of wealthy participants.
Without proper regulations, this could give them control over an essential resource, making it highly unfair.

Since 2020, Chinese chip industry sales have nearly doubled.
As a result, China now accounts for ~6% of the global semiconductor market.
This is roughly in-line with Japan and the European Union, at ~7% each, and Taiwan, at ~6%.
By comparison, North America represents 53% of the market, while South Korea accounts for 21%.
