Chinese regulators want its $28 trillion capital market to fund its AI ambitions.
They are changing the financial framework to facilitate faster IPOs, bond issuance and easier bank lending.
The shift has already started.
CXMT raised $9.8 billion and became mainland Chinaβs most valuable stock within hours of its debut.
Chinese tech companies have also issued $38 billion in bonds this year, the most for the period since 2016.
Until now, China built industries such as EVs mainly through subsidies, tax incentives and state funding.
But it is now adopting the same capital-market model that helped America build its technology sector.
Though the US still raises far more. For every $1 secured by Chinese tech companies, American peers raised more than $6.
But Chinese companies borrowed at an average 1.9% this year, around 60% cheaper than their US rivals.
That leaves them with more money for AI research and capacity.
Chinaβs models also reportedly cost less than 10% as much to train, while their average API prices are below 20% of global rivals.
America may still have more capital, but China is trying to compete by using every penny more efficiently.

JUST IN: BOJβs September rate-hike signal led the US to join Japanβs yen intervention.
The US reportedly joined the rare intervention after Governor Ueda said interest rates could rise sooner and faster if needed.
Markets will now watch for confirmation of a September hike, which could lift the yen but push Japanese bond yields higher.
