Researchers have developed a flexible, breathable skin patch that can effectively target and destroy melanoma cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. The innovative device uses laser-induced graphene embedded with copper(II) oxide nanoparticles within a soft silicone (PDMS) matrix. The patch remains inactive until gently heated to about 108Β°F (42Β°C) with a low-power laser, at which point it releases copper ions directly into the tumor.
In preclinical mouse studies, the βheat-and-releaseβ patch reduced melanoma lesions by 97% within just 10 days after two one-hour treatments. Beyond shrinking the primary tumor, the patch triggered multiple forms of programmed cell death (including apoptosis, cuproptosis, and ferroptosis), reduced cancer cell migration, and stimulated an immune response that helped prevent metastasis. Importantly, it showed no significant damage to surrounding healthy skin and avoided harmful copper accumulation in major organs.
The patch is stretchable, transparent, reusable, and easy to apply, making it a potentially convenient and less invasive alternative to traditional surgical excision for skin cancer.
While the results are highly encouraging, the technology is still in the early experimental stage and requires further testing before human clinical use.

Another historic temple has burned in Japan.
On the evening of May 16, a fire broke out at Daihoji Temple in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture.
The temple is said to have been founded in 1453, during Japanβs Muromachi period.
Firefighters responded with around 20 fire trucks, and although all four residents were confirmed safe, the main hall was burned.
The cause is still under investigation.
But this year, there have been far too many fires at shrines and temples across Japan.
These are not just old buildings.
They are pieces of Japanβs memory, faith, and history.
Once they are gone, they can never truly be replaced.

If I say βfree Palestineβ to a Jewish person and they start attacking me, have I lost the right to self defense because I βprovokedβ them? What if I say βYouβre not a real womanβ to a trans person? What if say βGod is realβ to an Atheist?
Iβm now legally responsible for my own assault and limited in my ability to defend myself from death or serious bodily harm?
Or does everyone actually understand that you donβt lose the right to self defense just because you said a word someone doesnβt like?
Iβm sorry, but I choose to live in America where freedom of speech is enshrined as the 1st Amendement for a reason - and the 2nd ensures it.

I have two NVIDIA DGX Sparks stacked in my office.
They've been sitting there for a month.
Here's my honest take.
Open source AI is never going to compare to frontier models.
Running quantized Kimi K2.6 and GLM 5.1 locally is cool.
But practical? No. Not even close.
I run all my Hermes agents on GPT 5.5 through my ChatGPT Pro subscription. Practically free.
GPT 5.5 is the intelligent model in the world.
Why would I route serious tasks to a watered down local model?
If you need fast and accurate, you're not using local inference.
You're using GPT 5.5 or Claude Opus 4.7.
I'm not saying this to rage bait.
I genuinely want to know.
Why would anyone serious about vibe coding and AI agents use a local model when frontier is this far ahead?
