Credit cards redistribute to higher-income households through interchange fees: the fees merchants pay to credit card companies on purchases made by their cards

This happens because merchants increase prices to offset fees and richer people disproportionately use credit cards

The Irish government has budged under pressure from the protesting farmers and announced yesterday that it will reduce excise duties by 10c per litre on diesel and petrol.

There will also be a delay in planned carbon tax hikes.

Irish farmers, truck drivers, agricultural contractors, taxi and bus operators launched nationwide fuel protests on April 7th, blocking fuel depots, ports and Ireland’s only oil refinery with their tractors and other vehicles.

The core issue is soaring diesel and petrol prices, which have jumped sharply due to the crisis in the Hormuz Strait.

Protesters argue these costs, combined with Ireland’s carbon tax on fuels including β€œgreen diesel” used in agriculture, make operations unsustainable.

Farmers highlight that running tractors, machinery, and transport for fertiliser, crops, and livestock has become prohibitively expensive due to the climate taxes.

β€œNo farmers, no food” is one of the main slogans used by the protesters.

HOLY CRAP! Trump's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is costing Iran $400 MILLION PER DAY, per Fox

"$13 billion a MONTH! Plus, the Iranians can only store oil for about two weeks before they have to start SHUTTING OFF wells.

The Iranians can't outlast us. The world's turning to US for energy. Over 120 empty oil tankers are on their way to the Gulf of America."

VP JD Vance, a self-identified Catholic, said that the Vatican should β€œstick to matters of morality” and stay out of American political affairs.

β€œStick to matters of, you know, what’s going on in the Catholic Church. Let the President of the United States stick to dictating American public policy.”

β€œWhen they are in conflict, they are in conflict. I don’t worry about it too much,” Vance added.
