Amazon agrees to pay $20.5 million to settle allegations that its data centers in Morrow County Oregon contributed to contaminating ground water with nitrate pollution in the agricultural community
Hereβs what happens
- Amazon uses huge volumes of water to cool its data centers
- Because the data centers use water that has nitrates in it from the area, water evaporates during the cooling process
- What's left is highly concentrated nitrate water
- That highly concentrated nitrate water then goes back out over the farmland, seeping back into the groundwater water
Now imagine this nationwide on a massive scale due to thousands of data centers being built

NEW: Man who identifies as a woman who was convicted of stabbing his parents and dog to death is being sued for s*xually assaulting a woman in prison.
Andrew (Andrea) Balcer was sentenced to 40 years for murder and was placed in a women's correctional facility because he claimed to be a woman.
According to court documents, inmate Katie Mountain is accusing Blacer of threatening to r*pe and impregnate her.
She accuses Balcer of trapping her in a bathroom and forcibly kissing her.
"Don't worry, if you don't wake up, it's because I smothered you with a pillow," Blacer allegedly said, according to CBS13.
The woman says she was transferred to segregation and denied medication after she refused to bunk with Balcer and says she no longer qualifies for early release because of the incident.
