In 2022, Melissa Knutson was a nurse working with participants in the Monroe County Drug Court in Wisconsin. One of the men in the program was under her care.
She began a sexual relationship with him.
When the relationship came to light and was reported to authorities, Knutson told investigators the patient had sexually assaulted her.
Text messages later showed she had started the relationship herself and had willingly continued it. She eventually admitted the assault claim was completely made up.
On February 27, 2026, Knutson pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and obstructing an officer. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison and two years of extended supervision afterward.
