In Germany, the mass exodus from the Catholic and Protestant churches continues, with membership dropping by 1.2 million over the past year.

The number of Catholics formally leaving the Church has declined for the third consecutive year.

By the end of 2025, the total number of church adherents fell to 36.6 million, about 1.2 million fewer than the previous year.

The Protestant Church has roughly 17.4 million members, and the Catholic Church about 19.2 million, continuing a long-term downward trend.

According to the Protestant Church of Germany, around 350,000 people officially left in 2025, and roughly 330,000 died. Baptisms and new members, about 121,000, do not offset these losses.

For Catholics, about 307,000 left and over 200,000 died, with baptisms, new members, and returns remaining far below the losses.

The German Catholic Church has also taken steps toward LGBTQ+ inclusion, defying Vatican doctrine by blessing same-sex unions.

In 2023, a majority of German bishops voted to allow blessings of same-sex relationships as part of the “Synodaler Weg” (Synodal Path) reform, defying a 2021 Vatican ban.

This has created major division in the German Catholic Church, with some even warning that it could lead to a schism.

US coffee prices are surging at a record pace:

The average price of ground roast coffee is up to a record $9.46 per pound.

In February, coffee prices jumped +30.5% YoY, and have surged +127% since January 2020.

Over the same period, ground beef prices have risen +73% to $6.74 per pound, near an all-time high.
