A now-deleted post from Energy Secretary Chris Wright briefly sent oil prices plunging Tuesday. The message claimed the U.S. Navy had escorted a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting oil flows were secure.

Markets reacted instantly: crude, diesel and gasoline futures dropped while stocks jumped. Minutes later the post was removed after officials said it had been incorrectly captioned, and that the military isn’t currently escorting commercial ships.

During the brief window, U.S. crude futures fell as much as 19%, and an oil-linked ETF lost $84 million in market value. Prices later stabilized but still closed down 12% at $83.45 a barrel, the steepest one-day drop in four years.

Iran's new Supreme Leader is injured, hiding, and hasn't said a word

The NYT reports that Mojtaba Khamenei suffered leg injuries on the opening day of strikes that killed his father, mother, wife, and son.

Three Iranian officials say he's alert but sheltering in a secure location with limited communication.

Israeli intelligence independently reached the same conclusion before he was even selected as Supreme Leader.

He hasn't appeared on video, hasn't spoken publicly, and hasn't issued a single written statement since taking power.

Defense Minister Katz publicly said any successor would be a target.

The man running Iran right now is wounded, grieving, and being hunted by two of the most advanced militaries on earth while his face goes up on murals across Tehran.

During the five-week trial, 11 women - including several who said they were minors at the time of the incidents - testified against the brothers, alleging they gave them gifts and flew them to locations and parties where they fed them drugs before assaulting them.

Prosecutors said the brothers "surreptitiously" put drugs in women's drinks, and told jurors that they "physically restrained and held down their victims during the rapes and sexual assaults and ignored screams and explicit requests to stop".

Pyongyang condemned the U.S. and Israel for "destroying regional peace" and said it respects Iran's choice of Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader.

Iranian-linked tankers are still sneaking through the Strait of Hormuz despite the chaos.

Some are running "dark" with their tracking systems turned off.

7 ships made it through since March 8, 5 of them tied to Iran.

Iran even restarted crude exports from its Jask terminal, loading 2 million barrels last week.

The U.S. Navy decommissioned its last specialized minesweeper ships in the Persian Gulf back in September and shipped them to America for scrapping.

Now Iran's reportedly laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, and the only ships available to clear them are littoral combat vessels, also known as "Little Crappy Ships," with terrible reliability issues.

Some of the earliest models have already been retired after just a few years in service.

They've been called one of the biggest failures in U.S. shipbuilding history.
