The British Ambassador to NATO, Angus Lapsley, has found himself at the center of a scandal involving a young mistress, according to The Times.
According to the publication, the 55-year-old Lapsley housed his Italian girlfriend, who is almost half his age, in his official residence in Brussels.
"They didn't try to hide their relationship. Angus used the residence as his own, and the woman was there at Christmas and summer receptions," a source reported.
As the newspaper notes, Lapsley met the intern at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels. The relationship was noticed within the organization, after which the information was brought to the attention of Admiral Sir Keith Blunt, the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.
In the British armed forces, such official relationships can be considered grounds for dismissal.
