what it actually does (and doesn’t)
The India–EU deal mainly does two things:
Removes tariffs and barriers on trade, especially goods and digitally delivered services.
Creates a common EU-wide framework for cooperation with India.
On mobility:
It sets a shared framework for temporary mobility (business visitors, intra-company transfers, service suppliers).
There is NOT automatic access to EU jobs.
There is NOT harmonisation of visas, degrees, or hiring rules.
On education:
Student visas and post-study work remain national decisions.
Member states keep full control over work permits, recognition of qualifications, language requirements, admissions and everything else.
This is a move in line with recent year/years: diversification from US and China, while opening a market for our export (which was heavily tariffed before). For India it's more about being able to sell "digitally delivered services" as they call them in the document.
