One of the problems, of course, is that pathogens develop antibiotic resistance, and so you have to keep increasing the amounts you're giving the animals.

Unfortunately, we don't really know the effects of consuming meat from animals that have been pumped full of antibiotics. The small amount of research suggests, as you'd expect, that antibiotic residues in meat can cause serious damage to the gut microbiome. Pretty much every chronic disease you can think of, from Alzheimer's to autism, has been linked to gut dysfunction.

US consumer confidence is collapsing:

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index fell -9.7 points in January, to 84.5, the lowest since May 2014.

This marks the 6th consecutive monthly decline.

This officially puts consumer confidence below 2020 pandemic levels.

The Present Situation Index fell -9.9 points, to 113.7, the lowest since February 2021.

At the same time, the Expectations Index declined -9.5 points, to 65.1, the 2nd-lowest since March 2013.

This is far below the threshold of 80 that usually signals a recession ahead.

Consumers earning less than $15,000 a year remained the least optimistic among all income groups.

US consumers believe the economy is in a recession.
