my best guess is they

- correctly understood it was a driving checkpoint, where the officer checks something

- misinterpreted the thing as a security checklist, which it is not

- saw the colors on the right, knew they had no idea what they meant, but just sloppily said “screw it, probably doesn’t matter”

And that third part is what really wrecked them.

Definitely knowing they don’t get something, but just plowing ahead.

Pure sloppiness.

Pure low conscientiousness.

But then again China is a academic fraud capital, so the laziness kinda fits.
