Are Africans less attractive? Well, a Princeton University study decided to investigate this using genetic ancestry data in the Add Health (USA). In their words "Our findings highlight the existence of substantial attractiveness penalties related to having higher levels of Sub-Saharan African"

Is this just because most of the interviewers, who supplied the attractiveness ratings, were White? Maybe they just use their own racial standards.

No say the authors. Black interviewers actually showed a stronger effect. One could ascribe this to 'internalized Whiteness', or maybe fellow Blacks just know what to look for in Blacks, and the White interviewers have race blindness.
