The Harri, a Germanic tribe briefly mentioned by Tacitus, were said to be the most powerful of the Lugian group of states. They dominated large parts of Germania in the region of present day Poland and eastern Germany.

Tacitus writes in Germania:

As for the Harii, quite apart from their strength, which exceeds that of the other tribes I have just listed, they pander to their innate savagery by skill and timing: with black shields and painted bodies, they choose dark nights to fight, and by means of terror and shadow of a ghostly army they cause panic, since no enemy can bear a sight so unexpected and hellish; in every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered.

Facial reconstruction of a hunter-gatherer from Afalou, Algeria, belonging to the Iberomaurusian culture.

In line with the customs of Iberomaurusian males, and several other peoples of MENA during that period, the man had his incisors removed as part of an initiation rite.

This ancient maghrebi was mix of caucasoid and some archaic component

On 26 July 811, a massive Byzantine army was destroyed on the plains between the Danube and the Haemus Mountains. During the Battle of Pliska, the emperor Nicephorus I himself was killed—the first to die in battle since Valens in 378—and his head was turned into a silver-lined drinking gourd by the victorious Bulgarian khan. It was one of the worst humiliations Byzantium ever suffered.

Back in the Byzantine camp, Nicephorus lay dead. Krum’s men decapitated the emperor and brought the head back to their khan. Krum stripped the skin from his skull, lined it with silver, and turned it into a drinking gourd, which he used to toast his great victory. The future would give him several more such occasions

They were mix of uralic like, slavic like and non local dna

The Volga-Oka interfluve in northwestern Russia has an intriguing history of population influx and language shift during the Common Era. Today, most inhabitants of the region speak Russian, but until medieval times, northwestern Russia was inhabited by Uralic-speaking peoples.1,2,3 A gradual shift to Slavic languages started in the second half of the first millennium with the expansion of Slavic tribes, which led to the foundation of the Kievan Rus’ state in the late 9th century C
