Supermarkets in Wales to Sell Only Essentials During Lockdown

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Supermarkets in Wales will not be allowed to sell items such as clothing and hardware during the COVID-19 firebreak lockdown, first minister Mark Drakeford has said.

Drakeford said it will be “made clear” to supermarkets they are only able to sell products that are classed as “essential goods."

He said this would ensure a “level playing field” as many retailers will be forced to shut when the 17-day lockdown begins on Friday.

Fauci Thinks the U.S. Government Should Mandate Mask Use as Pandemic Persists

🇺🇸 Dr. Anthony Fauci said the country should probably mandate mask use, even if people complain about the trouble with enforcing it.

“If everyone agrees that this is something that’s important, and they mandate it and everybody pulls together and say, you know, ‘we’re going to mandate it but let’s just do it’. I think that would be a great idea to have everybody do it uniformly,” he said Friday on CNN. “I get the argument, say, ‘well, if you mandate a mask, then you’re going to have to enforce it and that’ll create more of a problem.’ Well, if people are not wearing masks, then maybe we should be mandating it.”

WHO Chief Warns Against "Vaccine Nationalism"

🌎💉 The head of the WHO on Sunday (Oct 25) called for global solidarity in the rollout of any future coronavirus vaccine, as the number of cases soared across the world.

In a video address at the opening of the three-day World Health Summit in Berlin, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the only way to recover from the pandemic was together and by making sure poorer countries had fair access to a vaccine.

“It is natural that countries want to protect their own citizens first, but if and when we have an effective vaccine, we must also use it effectively. And the best way to do that is to vaccinate some people in all countries rather than all people in some countries,” he said.

California's Dire COVID-19 Prediction Last Month Was Wrong, Hospitalizations Actually Went Down Instead

🇺🇸 In late September, California officials predicted that the state could see a whopping 89% increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations within the next month. But 30 days after that dire prediction, the rates of virus-related hospitalizations have gone down.

Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state’s health and human services secretary, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times on Sept. 25 as saying that the state was on track to have more than 4,800 people hospitalized with COVID-19 by Oct 25.

Recent data shows that Dr. Ghaly was off by about 1,831 patients. According to covid19.ca.gov, as of Sunday (Oct 25), about 2,969 patients in California are hospitalized with COVID-19.
