In an open letter to Premier Daniel Andrews, 500 medical experts argue that the state government’s response to COVID-19 is causing severe harm, a spike in mental health issues and a worrying decline in tests for medical conditions like cancer and chest pain.

“The current restrictions are unnecessary, disproportionate and must be lifted,” the letter says.

National Guard Called in to Help Contain COVID-19 Outbreaks at Two Minnesota Nursing Homes

In a troubling sign of COVID-19’s resurgence, the Minnesota National Guard has been called in to provide emergency staffing support at two nursing homes struggling to contain large and deadly outbreaks of the respiratory disease.

Over the past 10 days, the National Guard has dispatched small teams of medical professionals to facilities at opposite ends of the state where dozens of residents and staff have been sickened, and where staffing levels became so depleted that they turned to the state for help. Both facilities — one in the southern Minnesota city of Austin and the other on the Iron Range in Hibbing — have active outbreaks and are isolating infected residents in separate COVID-19 units.

The rare deployments come amid an alarming resurgence of COVID-19 across the region and amid mounting evidence that the virus is infiltrating Minnesota’s 2,100 long-term care facilities after declining over the summer. They also reflect how the virus is shifting toward smaller facilities in rural areas where staffing shortages are more severe.

With cases rising statewide, public health experts fear a repeat of the chaotic scenes this spring.

Doctors Share Excitement About Regeneron Antibody Cocktail Treatment Study

🇺🇸💊 U.S. President Donald Trump received Regeneron's experimental COVID-19 treatment and now a hospital in Ohio is enrolling sick patients in a study using the same antibody cocktail.

A new study opened just last week and doctors involved have said in some cases, the antibody cocktail appears to cut recovery time in nearly half.

"This is really state of the art as far as management for COVID," said Dr. Roberto Colon, Associate Chief Medical Officer at Miami Valley Hospital.

"We anticipate that over the next few weeks, we're going to have even more people that are showing a lot of interest," Colon said.

YouTube Bans COVID-19 Vaccine Misinformation

💉 YouTube will ban content containing misinformation about coronavirus vaccines, expanding its policy surrounding misinformation about the virus, the company said Wednesday.

The Google-owned video platform said it will remove any content that includes claims about COVID-19 vaccinations that contradicts information from health authorities.

YouTube was already removing content with misinformation about the existence and the transmission of the coronavirus, as well as content promoting medically unsubstantiated methods of treatment. The platform said it had removed more than 200,000 videos related to dangerous or misleading COVID-19 information since early February.

Ministers Plan Pre-Christmas COVID Lockdown for English Universities

🇬🇧 Ministers want to place universities in England into lockdown for two weeks before Christmas, with students told to remain on campus and all teaching carried out online, the Guardian has learned.

Under the government’s plan, which is in its early stages, universities would go into lockdown from December 8 until December 22, when all students would be allowed to return to their home towns.

World Bank Approves $12 Billion to Help Developing Countries Fight COVID-19, Plans to Vaccinate a Billion People

🌎🏦 The World Bank has announced that it will provide $12 billion for efforts to deliver a distributable COVID-19 vaccine to developing countries, a move the organization said was aimed at vaccinating 1 billion people against the virus.

In a news release, the World Bank said that the fund would support its ongoing efforts to support more than 100 nations with emergency funding in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We are extending and expanding our fast-track approach to address the COVID emergency so that developing countries have fair and equal access to vaccines,” said World Bank Group President David Malpass in a statement.

“Access to safe and effective vaccines and strengthened delivery systems is key to alter the course of the pandemic and help countries experiencing catastrophic economic and fiscal impacts move toward a resilient recovery," he continued.

In addition to supporting the purchase of vaccines by various governments around the world, the World Bank's $12 billion fund will also "provide financing and technical support so that developing countries can prepare for deploying vaccines at scale," according to the news release. @COVID19Up SOURCE
