CDC Now Says SARS-CoV-2 Can Spread More Than 6 Feet Through the Air, Especially Indoors

🦠🇺🇸 The top U.S. public health agency said Monday that the coronavirus can spread more than 6 feet through the air, especially in poorly ventilated and enclosed spaces. But agency officials maintained that such spread is uncommon and current social distancing guidelines still make sense.

However, several experts faulted the updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. They said the virus can spread more easily than the CDC seems to be indicating, and suggested that the public should wear masks even in prolonged outdoor gatherings when they are more than 6 feet apart.

Facebook Removes Trump Post Saying Flu is More Lethal Than COVID in Most Countries

🇺🇸 Facebook on Tuesday removed a post from President Trump in which he falsely claimed that COVID-19 is less deadly than the seasonal flu.

Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone confirmed the company removed the post for breaking its rules on COVID-19 misinformation.

White House Physician Says Trump Experiencing "No Symptoms" of COVID-19

🇺🇸 White House physician Sean Conley said Tuesday that President Trump is reporting “no symptoms” after being discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center during his treatment for the novel coronavirus.

“This morning the President’s team of physicians met with him in the Residence. He had a restful first night at home, and today he reports no symptoms,” Conley wrote in a memorandum issued Tuesday afternoon, less than five days after Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Vital signs and physical exam remain stable, with an ambulatory oxygen saturation level of 95-97%. Overall he continues to do extremely well, I will provide updates as we know more,” Conley wrote.

Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday evening and was transported to Walter Reed on Friday after experiencing a high fever and a drop in his oxygen level that required supplemental oxygen.

Trump has been fever-free since Friday, according to Conley, and otherwise has experienced symptoms of a mild cough, nasal congestion and fatigue. @COVID19Up SOURCE

Contact Tracing Apps Picking Up Steam in U.S.

🇺🇸 Contact tracing apps built with joint Apple and Google software are now used in 12 U.S. states and territories, as public health agencies devise ways to use technology to facilitate tracking and notifying residents of exposure to the novel coronavirus.

Google and Apple built the software for the Exposure Notifications System that allows public health agencies to create free apps for iPhones and Android phones and send push alerts through Bluetooth signals to users who came in close contact with other app users who have reported a positive coronavirus test.

Google spokesman Pete Voss said in an email that app users can choose to opt in to exposure notifications and to disclose their coronavirus diagnosis to the app. He added that the system does not collect or use location data.

Billionaire Wealth Reaches New High During COVID-19 Pandemic

Billionaire wealth reached record high levels amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a report by UBS and PwC found, as a rally in stock prices and gains in technology and healthcare helped the wealth of the world's richest break the $10 trillion mark.

The report, covering over 2,000 billionaires representing some 98% of the cohort's total wealth, found billionaire wealth grew by more than a quarter during the early months of the pandemic to reach $10.2 trillion in July, breaking the previous record of $8.9 trillion at the end of 2019.

The figure represents a five- to ten-fold rise over the past 25 years, the span covered by the UBS and PwC database, when billionaire wealth stood at just over $1 trillion.

Between April 7 and July 31 this year, billionaires across every industry covered by the study saw their wealth rise by double digits, with billionaires in the technology, healthcare and industrial sectors leading the pack with 36%-44% gains. @G3News SOURCE

Over 6,000 Scientists Sign "Anti-Lockdown" Petition Saying It's Causing "Irreparable Damage"

👨‍🔬👩‍🔬 More than 6,000 scientists have signed an anti-lockdown petition saying that coronavirus policies are causing "irreparable damage."

The petition, which is named the Great Barrington Declaration after the town in Massachusetts it was signed in, was written on October 4 and has signatures from at least 2,826 medical and public health scientists, 3,794 medical practitioners and over 60,000 members of the general public.

"As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection," the petition says in its opening line. "Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health."

The petition adds, "Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed." @COVID19Up SOURCE
