Walmart to Test Drone Delivery of COVID-19 Test Kits
Walmart has been experimenting recently with drones, announcing plans this month to handle deliveries of health and wellness supplies in Arkansas early next year while also launching a pilot project for grocery deliveries in North Carolina. Now it's using the flying robots to help get COVID-19 testing kits to patients, with the retail giant announcing on Tuesday that it has partnered with Quest Diagnostics to deliver collection kits for at-home COVID-19 tests.
The trial, which is using DroneUp as the drone services provider, will be live in North Las Vegas today and will come to Cheektowaga, New York, in "early October."
There is no delivery or kit cost for those who want to get the drone-delivered self-test kits. After doing the nasal swab test, the collection kits can be shipped back to Quest Diagnostics with a prepaid shipping label.
The news shows Walmart is continuing to build on its drone delivery ambitions as it looks to compete with Amazon, Alphabet and UPS for the future of deliveries.

Were Doctors Free to Prescribe Hydroxychloroquine, "We Wouldn't Need the Lockdowns"
🇦🇺💊 Hydroxychloroquine is a lawful drug which “doctors have been able to prescribe for over 60 years” yet bureaucrats have stepped in and overridden the ability of Australian doctors to prescribe it to their patients, says Liberal MP Craig Kelly.
“This is the most insane thing that I’ve ever seen in my life,” Mr Kelly told Sky News. “The evidence is now overwhelming; it rolls in day after day after day.”
Mr Craig said in the last 24 hours, a peer reviewed study published in the Lancet said “overall mortality was lower in the hydroxychloroquine group than in the group that didn’t receive hydroxychloroquine.”
“Yet we still have this ban preventing Australian doctors from prescribing this drug to their sick COVID patients,” he said.
“With the weight of evidence going on, anyone who tells you that hydroxychloroquine, there is no evidence for it, or it’s dangerous, is either lying or they’re a fool.”
Kelly added that "if these bureaucrats get out of the way and give the freedom back to the doctors" to prescribe hydroxychloroquine again, we wouldn’t need the lockdowns and we wouldn’t have “all the pain and suffering we are seeing around the nations." @COVID19Up SOURCE

Vitamin D Can Help Reduce Coronavirus Risk by 54%: Boston University Doctor
A Boston University doctor says a sufficient amount of vitamin D can cut the risk of catching coronavirus by 54%.
“People have been looking for the magic drug or waiting for the vaccine and not looking for something this simple,” said Dr. Michael Holick, professor of medicine, physiology and biophysics at Boston University School of Medicine.
Holick and his colleagues studied blood samples from Quest Diagnostics of more than 190,000 Americans from all 50 states and found that those who had deficient levels of vitamin D had 54% higher COVID positivity compared to those with adequate levels of vitamin D in the blood.
The risk of getting coronavirus continued to decline as vitamin D levels increased, the study, published in the Public Library of Science One peer-reviewed journal shows.
“The higher your vitamin D status, lower was your risk,” Holick said.

UK Experts Downplay Fears That New COVID-19 Tracking App May Wrongly Tell a Third of People to Self-Isolate
🇬🇧 Experts today downplayed fears that up to a third of people using the new COVID-19 tracking app could be wrongly told to self-isolate.
But separate concerns emerged that many people, including less affluent Londoners, will be excluded from the tracking system if they have older phones, including some that may only be a couple of years old.
The Times reported that one in three people told to isolate by the app will have been given a “false positive” reading of having been in close contact with a person who subsequently tests positive.
That's because the app relies on Bluetooth signals to determine whether someone has been within two metres of an infectious person for 15 minutes. But the signal can be interfered with by other devices that use Bluetooth—such as wireless headphones—and can miscalculate the distance between the two people. @COVID19Up SOURCE

Fauci Scolds Rand Paul During Tense Exchange at Hearing
A seemingly irritated Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, scolded Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at a congressional hearing on Wednesday after the senator claimed that COVID-19 cases might not be rising in New York because of herd immunity.
Fauci, the country's top infectious diseases doctor, told Paul he was wrong to make the suggestion, and he said Paul had also been wrong in other public comments about the concept of herd immunity.
"No, you've misconstrued that, senator, and you've done that repeatedly in the past," Fauci said.
"If you believe 22% is herd immunity, I believe you're alone in that," Fauci told Paul during the hearing, referring to the number of New Yorkers thought to have had COVID-19.
The exchange took place during a Senate Health Committee hearing where Fauci and others are testifying about the pandemic.

WHO Calls for Countries to Act Against Misinformation During the COVID-19 Pandemic
🌎 During a United Nations General Assembly event, the World Health Organization and partner organizations called on all countries to put national action plans in place to promote science-based health information and to combat misinformation.
“We call on the media, technology companies, civil society, researchers, and people everywhere to keep the infodemic from spreading,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of WHO. “Because now more than ever, the truth matters.” “Just as COVID-19 has spread around the world, so too have rumors, untruths and disinformation. And they can be just as dangerous,” Tedros said.
Even the most effective vaccine will fail if the public don’t have confidence in it, Tedros warned as he explained why it is so important that the public and policy makers are provided with accurate information. @COVID19Up SOURCE

Protesters in France's Marseille Rebel Against COVID Shutdown
🇫🇷 Protesters in Marseille on Friday demanded President Emmanuel Macron’s government reverse an order to shut down bars and restaurants in France’s second-biggest city, the epicentre of a second wave of coronavirus infections.
Local politicians said the move was disproportionate to the risk and would devastate the local economy.
Some proprietors said they would defy the order, amid signs of mounting public frustration across France at the reimposition of restrictions on public life as daily COVID infections hit record highs.
“We should stay open, they won’t be able to close everyone,” Jean-Pierre Cotens, owner of the 13 Coins bar, said during the protest. “And if there’s a fine, well, we’ll take it, but we’ll be better off working than shutting.”
The demonstration took place outside the commercial courthouse, "because this is where we'll probably come to declare bankruptcy," said Bernard Marty, president of the regional hospitality association. @COVID19Up SOURCE
