Found this list of work ethic tips from a career firefighter, for volunteer firefighters just starting out. Largely applies to non-emergency careers. Zoomies listen up.

1. Keep your ears and your eyes open, and your mouth shut. If you speak, make sure it's something important.
2. Never ever run on the fire ground. If you get hurt we have to stop to deal with your dumb ass.
3. Don't be reckless. It's their emergency, not yours.
4. Drink lots of water, you won't regret it.
5. Train like your life depends on it, because it does.
6. Talk to the old firefighters, we didn't get to be old firefighters by being stupid.
7. New firefighter know the rules, old firefighters know the exceptions (see above).
8. Pay attention at the dinner table, you'll learn a lot.
9 Try before you pry.
10. Stay low, do work.
11. We all get fearful (yes, even us old guys).
12. Courage, is doing the thing, and dealing with the emotions after.
13. Any firefighter worth a damn will listen to your problems. Me included, anytime. Day or night.
14. Education, is not the same thing as knowledge or wisdom. You can have all the certifications in the world but get somebody killed on the fire ground because you're an idiot.
15. If it's stupid, but works, it's not stupid.
16. You serve your community, no one else. Don't forget that.
17. Work like there's always somebody watching, because there is.
18. Not enough can be said about taking care of your mental health.
19. Don't be “that guy".

Also, I acquired like $60 dollars worth of batteries, $30 dollars worth in brake clean, $20 dollars in trash bags, $15 bucks in cleaning supplies, and some other things I won't say here.
