I've posited before that dumpster diving/scrapping is just Neo foraging for resources. It's a modern power process. It's also a harmless form of reusing and recycling into other recourses or the making of use of things by a consumerist society. Plastic can be turned back into diesal, metals can be used or turned in for cash, food can be eaten by farm animals for better nutrition, etc. It's a multi class lifestyle that appeals to the very poor or even rich who can engage in it for signaling virtues. It's appeals to those who want to stay fit, keep their mind sharp, and help the world in a small way. Art requires boundaries of the canvas to stay within the realm of art. Restrictions bring out our creative side whether it's art, survival, or just living. It's not popular now, but your kids are gonna love it.
