“I did my duty. Without me, my Athena would have died,” Fanelli said, defending his actions. However, hospital management wasn’t as sympathetic, launching an internal investigation into potential misuse of public resources. He could now face serious consequences for his off-the-books heroics.

His wife, local politician Nicoletta Spelgatti, stands by him. “My husband saved a life, period! In life, do good and never worry about the consequences.”
