📢 From 19 to 22 March, Disruption Network Lab will hold a four-day conference to assess and discuss the concrete impact of WikiLeaks on war, the military system, intelligence and cybersurveillance, government and diplomatic cables, global economy and art and culture. What remains of this spirit today, and why has this work been so important? How have society and politics changed since WikiLeaks began operating on a global scale? Thirty speakers will discuss the impact and legacy of WikiLeaks materials and leaks at the theater HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU1) in Berlin, followed by an activation event where possible future strategies will be shared.

For their documentary film „Hacking Justice” filmmakers Clara López Rubio and Juan Pancorbo followed the legal prosecution of the Wikileaks founder for nine years and gained exclusive access to his legal team led by former Spanish judge Baltasar Garzón. The film covers the period up to 2021; The directors will be available for a Q&A after the screening to discuss the period leading up to his release.

Join Maisa for a workshop examining government-issued voluntary return apps as tools of bureaucracy, marketing, surveillance, and persuasion. Through speculative design and conceptual web development, participants will analyse their aesthetic and rhetorical strategies and create counter-proposals – alternative UX flows or critical mockups that expose, subvert, or reimagine what a “voluntary” return could look like if shaped by transparency, care, or dissent 👾

The workshop is open to artists, researchers, designers, activists, and anyone who feels like urgency and paralysis feel like the same thing right now.

MEET OUR SPEAKERS: Chip Gibbons is a constitutional law expert, journalist, and researcher focused on the US national security state. As policy director of Defending Rights & Dissent, a civil liberties organization, he has spent over a decade exposing threats to political expression from national security policy. He is currently writing The Imperial Bureau (Verso Books), a history of FBI political surveillance based on archival research and FOIA documents.

Chip Gibbons will speak in our conference "Exposing Crimes is not a Crime" this coming March 19-20. He will participate in the panel "The Reasons Behind" with Stella Assange and will moderate the discussion on "Intelligence & Cybersurveillance"

MEET OUR SPEAKERS: Italian investigative journalist Stefania Maurizi reported on the Cables for an entire year, exposing among other things how the US put pressure on Italy to stop the extradition and prosecution of CIA officers responsible for the extrajudicial kidnapping and torture of an Egyptian cleric. She has followed the legal persecution of Julian Assange closely, even litigating for the right of the press to gain access to the full set of documents held by various authorities related to the Assange and WikiLeaks cases.

Stefania Maurizi will speak in our conference "Exposing Crimes is not a Crime" this coming March 20. She will participate in the panel "Government & Diplomatic Cables" with Kristinn Hrafnsson (Editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks), Jack Poulson (Executive Director, Tech Inquiry, US), Ewen MacAskill (Reporter, Former Guardian's Defence and Intelligence Correspondent, UK) and Joseph Farrell (WikiLeaks Ambassador).
