A Hot Summer Day

Yesterday was one of the hottest days of the summer. As soon as I woke up, I could feel the heat. The sun was beating down, and even the air felt heavy. I got up, opened all the windows to let some air in, and made a cold drink to cool off.

Around noon, I went out to meet my friend. We walked around for a bit, but the heat started to get to us. We were sweating like crazy, so we decided to head for a nearby café to chill out.

We sat down under a big umbrella and ordered some iced coffee. While we were waiting, we took off our jackets and tried to freshen up. The cold drinks really hit the spot. We talked for hours, just trying to make the most of the day without burning out from the sun.

Later, we stopped by a supermarket to pick up some ice cream before going home. When I got back, I took a quick shower to wash off the sweat and finally lay down to rest. It was a hot day, but we found ways to enjoy it!🌞🌞

1. Put off – təxirə salmaq
Meaning: postpone
Example: We had to put off the meeting because the manager was sick.

2. Put on – geyinmək / əlavə etmək / səhnələşdirmək
Meanings:

clothes: geyinmək
weight: kökəlmək
a show: təqdim etmək, göstərmək

Examples - She put on her jacket and left.
(O, gödəkçəsini geyindi və çıxdı.)
He has put on 5 kilos recently.
(O, son zamanlar 5 kilo kökəlib.)
The school put on a play for parents.
(Məktəb valideynlər üçün bir tamaşa səhnəyə qoydu.)


3. Put out – söndürmək (od/alov), narahat etmək
Examples: Please put out the fire before you go.
(Xahiş edirəm, getməmişdən əvvəl odu söndür.)
I don’t want to put you out, but can you help me?
(Səni narahat etmək istəmirəm, amma mənə kömək edə bilərsən?)


4. Put aside – kənara qoymaq / qənaət etmək
Examples: She put aside her book and looked at me.

Try to put aside some money every month.

In Azerbaijan, tea is more than just a drink, it’s a tradition.
Even on hot summer days, people love to drink hot black tea. It is usually served in a special glass called “armudu”, shaped like a pear.
Tea is often offered to guests as a sign of hospitality. It’s common to drink tea with lemon, sugar, jam (especially rose jam!), or sweets. Families gather, talk, and relax over a cup of tea.
For us, tea means comfort, respect, and connection.
No matter the weather tea is always a good idea in Azerbaijan!
