The Ethiopian Food and Medicine Control Authority, in partnership with USAID, has launched a new mobile phone application today.

The new app, i. verify, helps Ethiopians to identify approved medicines.

Speaking at the launching event, Sahrelah Abdulahi, State Minister of Health, said the app helps mobile users to easily verify about drug safety.

Zafree Papers, a local start-up that makes tree-free paper pulp made from agricultural waste, has been selected as one of the best ten start-ups at The Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Global Finals.

The EWC, one of the world’s largest pitch competitions and support programs for entrepreneurs with 175,000 entrants applying from 200 countries, chose Zafree as one of the finalists as the start-up introduced a clean-tech paper solution by making a 100% tree-free unbleached paper pulp from crop residue.

The company that was established in 2017 by two young social entrepreneur women, Bethlehem Dejene and Betelhem Fikre, will pitch against the other finalists to become the overall winner today, October 19, 2020.

The ten finalists will compete for a share of 1 million dollars in cash prizes – 500,000 dollars for first place, 250,000 dollars for second place, and 100,000 dollars for third place.

Addis Mercato, in partnership with the Indian tech firm TechEagle, has launched drone delivery services in an area from Ayat to Legetafo covering approximately 14Km between the warehouse in Ayat and the customers’ location.

The drone delivery service reduces one way delivery time from 40 minutes to only eight minutes. It can decrease delivery costs by half with reduced energy consumption compared with road transportation, according to Abiy.

Four new data centre companies have secured land to make their home at #Ethio ICT Park, Ethiopia's Silicon Valley. #Raxio Data Plc, #RedFox Web Solution, #ScutiX and #Wingu.africa have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the #Ethiopian Investment Commission and have initiated preliminary steps to commence construction at the Park.

The biggest lot has been allotted to Wingu.africa at 15,000Sqm, while RedFox, Scutix and Raxio have been granted 4,000Sqm, 6,386Sqm, and 1,000Sqm of land, respectively. The companies will be providing storage, #infrastructure solutions for cloud computing, #webspace and domain #hosting, #virtual private centres and collocation services.
