RT @defi_monk: They probably won’t make much initially. Can send them DA and settlement fees but yeah not sure if those margins would be great right off the bat.
But if your perspective is to maximize profit for the validators atp it probably will directly conflict with the ability to build a competitive CLOB when maker costs on other chains will be close to zero.
I’m moreso thinking you retain eco CLOB builders on network extensions, and once you scale Solana mainnet to meet their demands, it will be easier to get them to migrate back onto mainnet with their existing brand and userbase, even if they have to redesign their protocol. Having a network extension w a competitive CLOB for now is better than not having one at all while you ship L1 upgrades.

RT @defi_monk: Hmm I guess if you hold that view it’s hard to argue with.
But if there are use cases that work better on a Solana rollup, why not have them build out a net new use case while still paying you for DA and being one quick fast finality bridge away for mainnet users?
You won’t devolve into Ethereum if your L1 can still support 99% of other apps.

RT @aeyakovenko: Top 10% of txs generate 90% of the rev. Since any da txs have zero contention they will be at the bottom of the blocks at the lowest priority.
L1 has to increase blockspace to keep it this way, or all the other apps will leave. No app wants to pay higher fees because of some other apps congestion. So basically, da will always pay bottom of the block pricing.
We need to make the top of the block attractive for the most value lucrative use cases.

RT @Tristan0x: I definitely see your argument re not leaking REV and internalising the most valuable transactions. But I think a few important practical realities are missed:
1. Having an actual best in class perps dex would drive demand to Solana that isn't currently being serviced. Traders today are literally bridging to HL instead because the current alternatives on Solana don't cut it (look at Defillama). To me that is massive value leakage to Solana that could be captured almost immediately (mindshare, users, new assets amongst other things)
2. Congestion - it is quite literally the scariest thing to run an exchange with significant OI when you cannot close or liquidate positions due to transactions not landing, or even landing a few slots late. Exchanges can go bankrupt if they cannot execute during black swan moves. Traders need lowest possible jitter on order placement latency. HL had zero perf degradation during major launches like TRUMP. How do you achieve this when your noisy neighbour is pumpfun (local fee markets, but they are not perfect in practice)
3. Priority fees are a huge pain in the ass for traders, especially market makers. Not only do they have to pay base fees for every one of the millions of place/cancel txs (which eats into their pnl), but they have to bid up the prio fee markets just to get included on time sensitive trades or liquidations. Everything becomes an auction and you lose real time price discovery. I think this is a bug not a feature for real time trading apps.
4. L1 blockspace != L2 blockspace. A rollup could theoretically process an order of magnitude more CUs and cram that into its blob. That "off the L1" compute would never necessarily exist on the L1 anyway (case in point lack of perps trading activity). Similar argument for state compression, the L1 can be better used for storing proofs than raw data. 90%+ of exchange messaging is just replacing orders i.e. no state transitions/trades.

loneliness epidemic, mental health decline, porn addiction, drastically reduced alcohol consumption, malls and events venues shutting down, increased global unrest, reduced birth rates / dating, these are all not individual problems but symptoms of a far larger one
