nobody talks about the internal shame and discomfort of wasting the potential that comes from a place of privilege-having all the means and resources, yet failing to achieve something significant. it's when you realize that you have no external factors to blame, that you are born into a family where basic amenities are taken care of, where failures have safety nets, where you have the time the underprivileged dream of, yet you are unable to utilize that undue advantage, that unfair headstart, to truly excel at something meaningful

you thought by immigration you'll finally find some peace of mind away from religion, away from Islam, away from the endless moral policing and theological debates that have dominated so much of your life? the entire world has become increasingly obsessed with religiosity. Islam continues to expand its influence, new spiritual movements emerge constantly, and what was once a coping mechanism for uncertainties now seems to have evolved into a collective dependency.
public discourse has once again regressed into fixation on clothing, modesty, and, predictably, women's bodies. muslims are often free to dispense judgment, condescension, and passive aggressive moral commentary with little resistance. the moment anyone challenges these views, the conversation is shut down under the pretense of respecting "beliefs." because oh you should stay "woke"
homophobic attitudes are experiencing a disturbing resurgence. as if decades of activism achieved anything lasting at all. the progress that once seemed irreversible now appears alarmingly fragile. queer people continue to be stigmatized, condemned, and marginalized, often under the banner of religious conviction. The rhetoric may be dressed up as faith, tradition, or culture, but the consequences remain the same: exclusion, discrimination, and hostility toward people whose existence should never have been up for debate in the first place.
getting back to "anno domini", are we?
