Gruff, pioneering and unfiltered, Mike Leach was one of the most influential football coaches of this or any generation.
Leach, who was in his third year at Mississippi State after helping revolutionize the game of football from high school to the NFL with the Air Raid offense, died Monday night following complications from a heart condition, the school said Tuesday. He was 61.
Leach fell ill Sunday at his home in Starkville, Mississippi, near the university. He was treated at a local hospital before being airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, about 120 miles (200 kilometers) away.
Mississippi State was among the schools requiring vaccines for faculty and staff.

The day after Thanksgiving, November 25th, Sheila (44) went to Houston Healthcare Clear Lake Emergency Department, where she was first diagnosed with severe anemia and thrombocytopenia (low platelets). Based on lab results, it turned out to be much worse than expected. Sheila was diagnosed on Sunday, November 27th, with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). This severe condition starts in the bone marrow (the soft inner part of certain bones, where new blood cells are made), but most often, it quickly moves into the blood and spreads throughout the entire body.
Sheila passed from this life Sunday morning, December 11, 2022, in Houston.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of four-time national motorcycling champion Keith Farmer.
An inquest into Mr Farmer’s death was formally opened by assistant Cumbria coroner Dr Nicholas Shaw on Thursday 24 November.
Dr Shaw adjourned the hearing to a provisional date of 20 April 2023.
Dr Shaw told the court Mr Farmer had been found unresponsive at his home on Friday 4 November and was taken to hospital, where he died on Thursday 10 November.

She is one of the first people in Canada to be compensated for a family member’s death under Canada’s Vaccine Injury Support Program. The program’s payments are not yet made public.
DuPerron has lived in B.C. since the 1980s. She got a call from a retirement home in Windsor, Ontario, in January of 2021, informing her that her 79-year-old mother had died.
Her mother had received a Moderna vaccine. Ten minutes later, she was having a hard time breathing. Soon she was unconscious. A nurse administered two EpiPens – one in a leg, and one in an arm, but they couldn’t save her.
She was gone in 15 minutes.
It had been a severe anaphylactic shock, despite the fact that she had never had an allergic reaction in the past.
“I was stunned,” said DuPerron. “I couldn’t wrap my head around it.”

A young Newtown family is facing the unimaginable shock and sorrow of the sudden loss of a beloved mother, wife, daughter, teacher and friend.
Jennifer Krasna, a highly regarded elementary school teacher in Malvern, died unexpectedly Nov. 28 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, just days after the birth of her second child. Krasna was 30 years old.
