According to Oliver Chinganaya, acting Director of the Technology, Climate Change and Natural Resource Management Division at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Ethiopia has set as a target for its mining sector to contribute to 10 percent of GDP by 2025.
One of the best ways to achieve this target is to learn best practices in exploration and development of mineral resources from experienced mining jurisdictions and countries in the world such as Canada, Australia, the United States and South Africa. DHV’s experience encompasses numerous proposed, operating, and closed mining operations in Canada, US, Europe, Chile, Congo Democratic Republic and Ethiopia.

In 2019/20, DHV Consultant has prepared a comprehensive strategy and sustainability plan to establish a Mineral Excellence Center (MEC) Laboratory at the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas of The Federal Republic of Ethiopia (Haile Tolera, H. (2020). The focus of the MEC Laboratory is to improve the economic values of industrial minerals, gemstones, and precious stones, base metals, and precious metals. The core-concept behind the plan is to materialize a small-scale mineral research laboratory with the capacity to provide standard analytical services for the mineral industry.

Megado, an Australian Exploration Company, has high-quality gold exploration projects in Ethiopia. Megado, controls or will control 5 potential Gold exploration areas:
• Babicho Gold Project (80% Megado);
• Chakata Gold Project (100% Megado);
• Mormora Gold Project (100% Megado);
• Dawa Gold Project (100% Megado);
• Dermi Dama Gold Project (100% Megado); and
• Chochi Gold Project (80% Megado).
What is your opinion on the company's 100% holdings of the areas, its economic benefits and the potential to create jobs for the local communities?

Megado Gold fieldwork confirms upside for Ethiopian gold targets
Megado Gold Ltd’s fieldwork at Babicho Gold Project in the Adola Gold Belt of southern Ethiopia has confirmed strong upside at a number of targets ahead of its first drilling next week.
Fieldwork, including geological and structural mapping and surface sampling to confirm and expand upon historical data, has highlighted the coarse nature of the gold, with large quantities of gold grains and flakes.
The company has found strong evidence of artisanal workings and indications of occurrences of primary hard rock gold.
Historical soil samples have revealed more than two-kilometers of coherent gold-in-soil anomaly overlaying a major regional structure, and coincident with spectral targets.
Previous trench sampling validated by Megado highlights the potential for Babicho to host high-grades and substantial widths of gold mineralization.

Geothermal development in Eastern Africa
"The countries of the East African Rift region hold significant geothermal potential, giving them valuable options for sustainable electricity production and direct use. Harnessing these resources can provide a renewable, affordable and stable energy supply. It can also help countries to fulfil the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and climate goals set out in the Paris Agreement."
"Despite the region’s economic challenges, plants in Ethiopia and Kenya have attained geothermal power generation capacity of about 900 megawatts-electric (MWe). Exploration drilling confirms untapped resources at both deep and shallow levels across the region."
This report is from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

Newborn stars, hidden behind thick dust, are revealed in this image of a section of the so-called Christmas Tree Cluster from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope. The newly revealed infant stars appear as pink and red specks toward the center and appear to have formed in regularly spaced intervals along linear structures in a configuration that resembles the spokes of a wheel or the pattern of a snowflake. Hence, astronomers have nicknamed this the "Snowflake Cluster."
Ethiopia is the 6th biggest producer of tantalum in the world. Tantalum is a strategic metal used due to its use in the mobile phone industry. Its use in other areas of electronic devices makes it high demand metal.

The Vancouver based Canadian East Africa Metals currently has three approved Mining Agreements with Ethiopia's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The Terakimti Oxide deposit Mining License, the Mining Agreements for the Mato Bula and Da Tambuk deposits.
For the Mato Bula and Da Tambuk deposits, construction and production plans remain unchanged. Start of construction is now anticipated in early 2021 with a one-year construction timeline to complete the parallel development of both mining operations.
